I’m a German software developer. I got a German Diplom degree1) in “Information Systems” from the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Currently I live in Mülheim an der Ruhr, a small city in the Ruhr area of North Rhine-Westphalia. Sometimes Mülheim is also called “City on the river”.
It’s a nice area for families and pets.
If you are European, then you already may know that the Ruhr area is the European Capital of Culture 2010.
The cities in the Ruhr valley grew up during the Industrial Revolution. The Ruhr valley was the most important place of coal mining and steel production at the beginning of 19th century. Nowadays almost all coal mines in this area are closed. and available for public sightseeing.
For example, old heaps are transformed into grasslands.
and the Ruhr floodplain is a nice area for walking with families or dogs.
The industry shifted to more technology-oriented branches.
My favorite language of choice is Python because usually you get things done quickly. I also like and use other languages like Ruby, Smalltalk for the same reason.
